Can anyone help me identify what this might be? Over the years, several pieces similar in size and appearance have washed in with the tides at my beach by my parent's house in Manomet, ma (Plymouth Bay, MA). Just curious... IMG_3028.jpgIMG_3029.jpg

Only speculating, but sailing ships began sheathing their hulls with copper in the second half of the 18th century, to stop the wood boring mollusks from destroying the hull, as well as preventing the growth of seaweed and barnacles. It also improved the speed of the ships. These pieces may be from old shipwrecks, or simply fell off of the hulls.

I noticed that this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE).
