A lot of valuable coins were stolen in Maine. They caught the thieves, but the coins were already spent. Mostly on crack cocaine. That means most of the dealers probably have no idea what htey have, and those coins might end up in rolls. If you seee some weird things in your rolls, this might be the reason.

FYI.

<<PITTSTON (NEWS CENTER) -- An under-age party in Pittston last month ended up with a burglary, in which almost $200,000 in cash, rare coins and old paper money was stolen from the homeowner's collection.

Kennebec County sheriff's detectives say their investigation led them to two men, Daniel Fortune and William Page Junior. The men were said to be on a Greyhound bus headed for North Carolina.

One suspect turned himself in, the other was arrested as he returned to Maine by bus.

Very little of the stolen coins and money was recovered. Apparently, everything was spent on crack cocaine. >>

i hate thieves. but why would you keep $200,000 worth of coins/bills in a place where anybody could grab them? sucks they stole them though, guess he learned a good lesson there.

no wonder it feels so good to sort though coins and we get a high from it...all that crack wearing off must be affecting us!

I'm posting only as a side note to STOLEN COINS. My Dad kept his coin collection in cigar boxes in a hall closet. One day while my parents were at church they were burglarized. The burglars dumped a number of cigar boxes of coins on the bed and picked through them. They only stole what they recognized. Must have been young and/or stupid. They left all the old money and even the gold coins.
