I got a very prompt e-mail response from the bayonet expert via the link i was given, however he says its not a bayonet as most all bayonets were forged, not cast. If anyone else has any ideas Id be happy with any guesses or even a shot in the dark. As im also a detectorist (amateur at best) I hope to soon be posting some pics of finds ive made since starting. Thanks again -JD in WV

It could be part of a workbench clamp.
The bayonet part is inserted into a hole on the bench top and hold-down is screwed on the threaded part to hold a piece of wood or other object in place.
Just a guess...

could we see a photo looking into the "socket" end of the item?? And also perhaps one with a tape measure stretched out beside it for scale?

As I am not home right now i would not be able to post any different pics at this time but, I am going home one leave toward the end of the month I could take some more at that time and post them. A few things I can tell you about it is that, the over all thread length is about 1 and a 1/4 inches with two slits running the length on the top and bottom, also the threads are tapered (i wasnt sure if this could be seen by all in the picture currently). The overall length of the blade or spike as I call it is about 7 inches. If anyone is interested I could e-mail you a picture which would allow you to see it closer. It also has a number right near the bend which i beleive says "1923 B" ,again you could tell better from an e-mailed pic. Thanks again everyone. -JD in WV

I'm guessing (just guessing) that it's a piece that is driven into a telephone pole and wires would wrap around it. Very portable and all you would need to drive it in was a hammer. And a big green insulator would be screwed on the threaded piece.
Just a thought.

Following a lead from wildrider and hasbeen I looked at some websites on glass insulators and "gowiths" and sure enough they were right. you just drive the spike into a pole and screw the insulator onto it. If nothing else ive found an excellent way to display one of my insulators. Thanks again! -JD in WV

This is especially hard, because by trying too much, you remember what you were trying to avoid thinking of. If you try too little, you end up thinking about penguins anyway.

Best achieved by looking straight up and spinning around. Try to be so dizzy you can't even stand up. This is also entertaining due to the "makes boredom seem a lot better" effect (see "Hurt Yourself").

Sort of entertaining. Include flamboyant shoulder shrugs for added impact, or go for a Marlon Brando set of grunts.
Send spooky emails

Look up someone's CV on the web, do some research on them via Google and then send them an email full of personal references claiming to be an ex-work colleague who fell in love with their shoes. Or something.

To get any benefit out of this one, you have to have a good imagination. Don't step off immediately, build up to the jump. Study the ravine below. Feel the winds at that altitude. Step off and...AHHHHHH!!!!!

The key to sounding Welsh is to make sure that your voice goes up at the end of the sentence, so that everything sounds like a question. Throw in a superfluous 'isn't it?' at the end of everything you say and you're halfway there. Isn't it?
Burn things with a magnifying glass
(Amusement Potential: 5-30 minutes)
Ants are always fun to use for this, but burning the face of someone you don't like, under some circumstances, can be just as entertaining.
