I think yours is a Krag.....but yours is missing part of the crossguard.....

KRAG RIFLE BAYONET:? Dated 1899, the blade is overall smooth, with some signs of sharpening and minor discoloration.? There is some minor pitting towards the tip.? The scales are full form and undamaged.? The release pin moves smoothly and functions well.? The scabbard is complete, with some scattered pitting and the belt hanger is intact, with a pleasing aged blue overall.? There is a small dent on the reverse of the scabbard that does not affect the blade?s movement.?

If it's a Krag, part of the top of the guard has been ground off like Gypsy said. Looks like a M98 Mauser but the button is on the wrong side. I'd have to agree, altered Krag bayonet. Monty

Yup! Thanks for the help!!! Here's a pic of it balancing on my finger, which would make me think it was cut down for throwing balance. Wonder if it's worth more or less now, I'll have to trace the Initials, and put a story to it.

Schmidt-Rubin?[Swiss] designed the original, and made a few modifications to a few of them.? Some were for Musicians and had the muzzle ring removed, some had saw backs, others had the saw backs removed afterwards [police], and still others had the handle grove filled, and muzzle ring filled in also.

One more thing that crossed my mind was could it have been cut down so that it couldn't be used for a bayonet mounted on a rifle.
