This belongs to a friend here in North Carolina. I can find examples of similar Civil War era brass bayonets but I haven't found any with the fish scale pattern on the handle. It has a total length of 25" and blade length of 20". There are no markings on it. Any information would be appreciated. bayonet1.webpBayonet2.webpBayonet3.webpBayonet4.webp

I thought at first (and was hoping for you) that it was a bayonet for a Winchester 73 Musket, (also sometimes called the Winchester Export Musket, and the Turkish Winchester) which would make it fairly rare and worth in the range of 700 -1000$ but it's missing a small notch in the barrel ring that the Winchester would have had. Then I thought maybe the 1870 Navy Springfield, but the grip is the wrong shape. Right now I don't know what it is for sure. I guess I'll look some more in a bit and try to nail it down for you. Are you absolutely sure there are no makings on the blade?

The "fish scale" like hilt resembles a Fayetteville Saber Bayonet. Argued as one of the most difficult of all Confederate bayonets to find in good condition. Supposed to have a 21 1/2" blade. SHould have a marking of the letter "L" stamped on the spine of the hilt.

Reference Warman's Civil War collectibles 3rd Edition by Russell E. Lewis pg 85, if that trully is what it is...hell of a find!

Thanks for the input. I double checked and there are no markings anywhere that I can see.
