Hey ya'll. My father passed away in 2007 and I have just started to go through some of his things. I came across these 4 bayonets and scabbards that I could use some help with identifying and putting a value on. I found solid information on the M6, but the other 3 I dont know how to identify or value. The first pic is of all 4 bayonets and scabbards. The next 3 pics are of the largest one, the 2nd 4 pics are of the clear handled one and the last 4 pics are of the smaller one. I ommited the M6 as I know what it is. I took pics of all visible markins on the bayonets and I assume the scabbards are the proper one for each bayonet. I have additional pics also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Should I clean these or leave them the way they are? Thank you all so very much! Bryan H.

The 3rd one down in the first pic looks like one I have. Korean War vet. I purchased a couple and took one to the butcher shop and had them put an edge on it. Finest piece of steel I have ever owned. Great for deer hunting.

ffluries should chime in--he probably knows everthing about every one. Mike???

Two of them are Springfield Armory (SA) bayonets. One appears to be an uncut version and the other appears to have been modified with plastic handles and a horrible grind job on the point and it is missing parts (gotta love dads. Mine did the same thing). The other with the black plastic handle is a U.S. issue but I'm not sure for which rifle. It almost looks like an M-16 but could also be for an M-14 or M1. The uncut is highly collectable and can bring in a good price. The others not so much. I'm not sure of the other one.

Wipe them down with oil and put them away where they won't rust. The ones that have rusted at most 4-0 steel wool with oil.

Order done from the first picture of the four together.

First bayonet, could you tell us what all the markings are?

Second bayonet was a springfiled Arms Model 1905 made in 1919, shorten most likely during WWII redesignated the Model 1905E1 10 inches. Hand grips replaced.

Third bayonet looks likes it could be a M4, M6 or M7 bayonet.

Forth bayonet is the Springfiled Arms Model 1905 made in 1917 for the 30-06 caliber U.S. Rifle 16 inches.

Thank you so much for the information. The markings on the firs bayonet are unclear but it looks like an oval with a "CG" or "GG" in the oval, then there is another oval with a "62" in it, then the serial # that starts A 65---... Thats all I can see. Bryan H.

First bayonet is an Italian model 1938 mannlicher-carcano, fixed blade bayonet.

Second bayonet was a U.S. Springfield Arms/Armory Model 1905 made in 1919, shorten most likely during WWII (They started this in 1943) redesignated the Model 1905E1 10 inches. Hand grips replaced, and the scabbard is incorrect although modified with the hanger, it could be a wartime fix by a GI, although I can't figure out what the scabbard came from right now.

Third bayonet looks likes it could be a M4, M6 or M7 bayonet.

Forth bayonet is the U.S. Springfield Arms/Armory Model 1905 made in 1917 for the 30-06 caliber U.S. Rifle 16 inches.

The 1917 and 1919 marked bayonets could also be for the P-17 Enfield rifle. I owned one years ago and the bayonet looked the same. They were made in the US by Remington and Winchester under license during WW1 for the British, but were also issued to American Soldiers in greater numbers than the 03-A3 Springfield because they were cheaper to make. I actually think they are a far better rifle. They were still in limited service in the early part of WW2, and were also issued to the Home Guard in Britain. Here's a pic of the rifle, and one I found online of a US soldier where you can see the bayonet on his hip.

Figured out the scabbard on the second bayonet. Now as for the bayonet itself you could buy some replacement grips, or the buyer could to return it back to an early WWII configuration.

Third bayonet looks likes it could be a M4, M6 or M7 bayonet.

Forth bayonet is the U.S. Springfield Arms/Armory Model 1905 made in 1917 for the 30-06 caliber U.S. Rifle 16 inches.
