Started with a Minelab xterra 505. Then Equinox 600 with stock coil, xl coil and sinper coil depending on circumstances. Now use a manticore.

Metal Detecting
Tried a new pretty inaccessible water site. Walked a little creek into a big creek. Little creek was only chunks of corroded zinc metal that sounded good. At mouth of little creek is a waist deep at middle bowl /pit presumably from recent flooding. It's about knee deep on edge of the bowl I got this large cent signal. Was about 6 inches in rocks and gravel. Out popped what I thought at first was a bayonet handle? Or it's something else? Fabric grips. Gilt brass.

Anyone want to take a stab lol at its age?

I didn't find much else here other than a Ganesha statue. It's definitely aluminum? Though it has a nice ping to it when you tap it on the arm, a Yale lock key and a vw karmann Ghia side badge. Really expected there to be more here. Lot of pull tabs and can parts, the stuff that moves easily.

Very cool!

I like the Ghia badge and the statue, cool finds, congrats!
Thanks. Statue is definitely aluminum. Scratch tested it with some KOH. Aluminum will react and fizz. Makes hydrogen gas. Silver will do nothing but get cleaner. Apparently I didn't go down creek far enough because there's an older site past were the statue came from. Guess I have to go back. It's pretty and also had to get to.

What is KOH?

What is KOH?
Potassium Hydroxide. Will also get aluminum tokens clean by stripping a few aluminum layers but it will also completely dissolve the token unless put token in an acid it to neutralize the KOH.
