As a kid my folks had a boat at the old steel marina - directly across from the road leading into the marina was a dirt road leading back to where us kids called the san dunes. Not much in the way of dunes but right next to the biggest pile of sand was a real old cemetary where the oldest head stones dating back to the 1800's. The dirt road had many turn offs where a few old houses could be found. The main dirt road went all the way to Pigeon. If I remember correctly there was a corn field on the outer edge.

Exploring the area around the marina I remember seeing 2 old horse drawn flat bed wagons I assume was used to haul timber. There also was a man made cave where a train would pull in to unload or load. Im going to assume it loaded grain. On top of the "cave" were chutes that funneled down to the waiting train cars. The tracks leading anywhere out were long gone when I was there.

Facing the cave entrance if you went into the woods to your right there was a clearing where I always thought would be a nice place for a house. Big tree standing right in the middle of the clearing. To the left was a trail leading into more woods where there was an old camp site - possible for hobo's. Many tin cans strewn about and lots of ashes.

The town of Bay Port itself had lots of old houses, a small town and poor i think but smack dab in the middle of all the timber cutting that went on up there.

If anybody has had any luck in this area I sure would be interested in hearing about it.

Thanks
