you need to put a size reference in pic. & view of the other side. kinda looks like fitting for piping

It's looks more like an escutcheon for a doorknob, but hard to tell without a size mentioned or something included for size reference.

I thought it was 4 a door knob too though i wasn't sure.. thanks for the input.. :-)

A mechanical doorbell, door knocker and doorknob can could all use a rosette of this type and May be identical on a matched set of door hardware. However, so far I'd go with the doorknob rosette... one that clips onto a larger backplate, since your item lacks screw holes. But I can't find pictures to support this, so I'll be curious to see if anyone can find a definitive answer (I hope!).

You're doing great US probably general service 2 piece button....believe that type spans a fairly long period of use....any writing on the back....you may want to take another set of pictures maybe on a white paper background to bring out the
details more clearly.

nice find and looks in good shape
i tried to fix lighting to see,not so good,i cant fig which cw Union Infantry I Officer's button it is
im almost sure that is what your button is,better pics to fig which one though,if im wrong one of
the button folks will correct me and ID
ive never looked up the history on Stones River,but have read here and elsewhere,it would be a
preemo hunt spot
