Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Hunting George Washington’s earthworks line through Purdy’s Farm, as he and his troops escaped from Battle Hill, in White Plains, New York, 1776, I found a dropped musket ball, and a copper “what is it?”. Crews were digging four-foot deep trenches all day for new electric lines near my home, and right across the known earthworks line, so I talked to the foreman and asked if I could detect to dirt dug from the trenches. He said “Sure, as long as you don’t get in the trench.” I’ll be back at it tomorrow morning bright and early!

Cool finds Terry...love that history!
What cal. is that ball ?
Gary

I don't know honestly. I'm going to swing by the Historical Society and see if they know, if not, I'll go to my mechanic and have him measure and weigh it! In the mean, maybe these shots can help an expert make a guesstimate..

Congrats Terry...cool permission and some dandy finds..GL tomorrow..:occasion14:

could be a 69, but with your :laughing7: crummy placement :laughing9: on the ruler, Terry ___methinks it be a 75 Bessie

ya might consider leavin' a six pack on the excavator for that "special consideration" from the foreman :dontknow::laughing7:

There was a HUGE variation in sizes of musket balls that early in the war. It's real. Go get more.

Congratulation on the nice finds! :occasion14:

Gotta' love it when they are ripping up historic dirt in your front yard! Good work scoring permission to sift through that dirt. Nice score on the old lead and cool old copper piece. Maybe some old flat buttons and a few coins tomorrow?!?:hello2:

Go...get...more...do...not...go...to...work...

So I got another 30-minutes in on the dirt this morning before the Police showed up and asked to see written permission from the property owner. I showed them the 1959 nickel, and 1901 Indian Head penny I had found so far, and we agreed to go have coffee, and leave the dirt alone - bummer!!!

Well, I leave for Ft. Lauderdale, in the the morning, so I'll try and reconcile my feelings on the beach - in the rain. Sometimes it's hard. :skullflag:
