I think over half my collection has come from those fields from three different farms. Some I know you and your brother have probably hunted. I've been doing all my deer and turkey hunting up there for the last 35+ yrs. and I sit there a lot just thinking about that day in history. I still shake my head every time I step on that soil. Unbelievable. Thanks for the post.

FF1, Thanks for this post. My Great, Great Grandfather, Pvt. William Ellerson Jenkins was there with his regiment, 44th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Company D, Dole Cook Brigade. Pvt. Jenkins would receive his first wound of the war at Sharpsburg, being shot through the shoulder. He survived the war and returned to his home in Ola, Georgia located in Henry County. He is buried behind his home church, about 25 miles from our house. He passed in 1918 at age 75. Sharpsburg, or Antietam whichever you choose to call it was one bloody battle. In retrospect, they all were. That was one Horrible War.

The NPS says over 3 million bullets fired. That’s a lot of lead.

Union. 60,000 men 12,400 casualties
Conf. 35,000 men 10,300 casualties

Yes sir, that is an awful lot of lead and iron.

I was reading one of my old Confederate Veterans magazines today and came upon this account of the battle of Antietam by R.H.Daniels, Company K, fourth Georgia Regiment. The magazine dates May, 1901. I broke it down into 3 parts to make it easier to read

Thanks Jeff
I'm'a lovin to learn.

Remembering is my REAL problem.
