✅ SOLVED Battery Box?

I found this in an area known to have troops from WW2 as well as homes previous to it and post WW2. I can read "Empire" in the diamond at the top of the front and I think "No. 802 - N" below that. Maybe other stamping but unclear. It has an "ON and OFF" position switch on top as well as it being hinged. Is this maybe a battery case to some kind of electrical device?
