Bassick-Sack Winston-Salem N.C. brass oak leaf?

Does anyone know what this was used for or called? I looked on the internet for the name's history. I get toxic waste site's? It's made of solid brass, looks hand forged, measures 7 1/4 inches by 4 inches. has BASSICK-SACK WINSTON-SALEM N.C. Wrote on the bottom. can't wiegh but about a pound. Thanks!

Thanks! I'm still looking on the company too. I found that ashtray or dish also, but not really an answer is it? how old is it and what's it's purpose? may never know ehh? lol..

Bassick Sack made furniture and door pulls....so this must have been some type of company give way....I know they were making hardware for fiurniture in the 1960's....I think bassick started in about 1917....but not positive and I dont know when the company merged with Sack....

Could also be a candy dish or nut dish.

I'm not a smoker, but don't ashtrays usually have places to rest your cig? Or was that feature not used in the early ones? I'm from Winston-Salem so I think that's a pretty cool find. I don't recall ever hearing the name of that company though.

pipe holder --ash tray or candy dish or change dish -- a piece that can be basically be whatever you want / need it to be...

I worked for Bassick-Sack in WS from 1974 to 1977. The maple leaf is an ash tray that was made for employees - it was not sold to customers.
