Barber Time! ('95-o & 02-s BBQ and 02 dime) 4/19/10
Alright guys,
I had my best hunt of the year today (aside from finding a pistol, but that wasn't fun until I got home and found out what I had). This tops, I think, my seated day. Perhaps this was my best hunt since starting. I had a 3 Barber day
Went to my new super awesome site that I found 2 V's at last week. First 10 minutes I dug a quarter. It was real iffy and probably was a good 8 inches down. I managed to see that it was an 1800's Barber, and that it was an O mint mark, but could not clean it til I got home (oh the tension...). Next couple of hours nothing but trash. Then at the very end of my hunt I hit the spot!
In 6 minutes I found a dime, a wheat and a quarter. None of which I could ID there without cleaning. First target was the dime. It was on the surface. I thought it was going to be junk, cuz when I swept the leaves, it swept away. I decided, trash, but then I decided to check anyway. It was a really dark dime. Reverse clear, obverse covered with clay and tar (was it seated or barber...). Next target was penny again, could not I'd till I got home. Next target, a 3 inch deep quarter, again covered in tar and clay. Could not I'd whether it was BBQ or Seated til home. It was time to go home, but that spot is waitingggggg for me (or am I waiting for it?).
These have been a real pain to clean cuz I don't want to rub at all yet, tar is stuck. The 02s BBQ and the 02 Dime I am soaking longer over night in rubbing alcohol in hopes that the rest of the Tar dissolves...
These are my first Barber Quarters ever found!!! and first Barber of any kind for 2010!
Gunk obscures, and photo not well but dime has full liberty.
This has full liberty...
Not pictured 1909 Wheat Penny (no VDB)
Happy hunting all! And as much as you are all MF's, I am not even giving any MF's info on this site, so please do not ask....
