*UPDATE* In December of last year I shared a 1907 O Barber Dime that I found metal detecting a public park here in Kansas. The coin was in incredible shape for a coin that was pulled out of the ground so I asked this page advice for sending in to grade at NGC. Most advice was to keep it out of the plastic and that it would come back cleaned. Curiosity got the best of me so I sent it off and well....drum roll please. The dime came back XF Details-Cleaned! Now that I take a closer look at the reverse, it is more clear to me that the dime was cleaned at some point. I believe it to be before I found it however, as I was very delicate with the coin when I found it. The knowledge I received on here was correct but I am still happy I sent the dime in to get encapsulated and to save as something I can show my kids and grandkids someday. I would recommend encapsulating metal detecting finds that are in good condition or that have higher value just to protect the coin and give you a good way to show off the coin to others.
