Bank tried to hit me with a fee....&%$#@$%**

Went to a bank that I have an account with and they told me it would be 1% to cash-in my coins...is this normal? Really took me by surprise. Ray

WOW, actually, the only ones I have seen in my area charge 7%-8% of every dollar if you are not a member or have an account.

but if you have an account i would think they would be more than happy to count coin for you, afterall, you are a CUSTOMER.

talk to the manager and see what all the fuss is about, the might not have a coin counter and it has to be done my hand. otherwise......

maybe time to swich banks?

Ouch.

Ask for the Fee Schedule and see what that says.

If it's on the schedule, you can ask for it to be waived if you have enough deposits in the bank. Even deposit the coins and withdraw the money later.

If it's not on the schedule, I strongly suggest you call the manager on the floor for it.

No it is not normal.
One of the banks I belong advertise in their brochure Free checking........You may deposit up to $10,000 per month in cash/coin.

Not normal, but many banks like to make up fees. I have this out with certain Chase branches that want to charge me.

I buy at one Chase and dump at 3 other Chase's and not once have I been even mentioned a fee for anything. The only time I got told about a fee is AFTER I made a rookie CRH mistake of bringing in $2200 in one big bag. She couldn't even lift it. I could tell she was a little PO'd because it was mostly halves and Adams $1's. She came back and said that next time there would be a fee. Needless to say I never went back to that branch and I got smart and split up my dumps now between 3 branches. Ne fees and all smiles!
