I had gotten a real good lead with verifiable info a few years back from an inside family source.....The problem was that the property had changed hands at some point, and the newer owners werent so keen on me or anyone searching their property(they have no clue of its existence) :'( I drove by this property the other day and it appears to be abandoned .....Hmmmm. Appears as though it might have fallen back into the banks hands, or be a govt tax repo! what would you do ....hit it asap :icon_pirat: or take chances on new owners ???

I would buy it back. Find what you are looking for and if you do not want the land for another purpose, Sell It. :icon_scratch:

Well, if you can't find the person to ask for permission to detect, then you could;

Well, tactfully, you could go out hit the property ASAP, if you find something great! If for any chance you get approached by someone and they ask what are you doing, tell them you had heard the property was up for sale/auction and you are checking out the property because you may buy it or bid on it.

If they ask what are you doing with a metal detector, tell them you are checking for water lines and if you do buy the property at the auction, you want to know where all the water sources are before you improve the property!

That is what I would do!!!

The worse thing is someone can come up to you and ask you what you are doing and tell you to leave!

Are water lines made of metal? I wouldn't think so due to issues with rust. Could you elaborate a littel more on this ruse?

If the property already has a water source to a building.

Yes
Water AND sewer lines can be made of metal, regardless if its for the water main or the supply line to the house
copper, steel, cast iron
yes, steel can get real crappy on the inside, thats why they have to ream the line out on occasion to restore the flow.
Its what they used before they made plastic for water pipe.

Allyour older water lines are made of metal since the early 1900's till they came out with PVC and copper but then that would be newer say 40's and later.
