Found these three items today and was hoping to get some ID on them.
The Ball button is two piece and measures .77" in diameter. there are no markings on it. The shell casing is a 32 caliber and has an indented base with what looks like a "B" in it. I tried to make it an "R" but I think it wants to stay a "B". The third item is some kind of clip. It is 2''s wide and just over 1'' tall. There are no letters on it but one side has some fancy scroll work.
Thanks for looking and for any help Y'all can give me.

Re: Ball button, shell casing and maybe a garter clip?

I think I've seen all these items before! :tongue3: It was fun to hunt with you again today. Next time we need SILVER! I'd post what I found today, but everyone has seen foil and beer can parts.

Are you sure that's a B headstamp? The only references I have to a B are European made.

Re: Ball button, shell casing and maybe a garter clip?

There is a definite closed loop at the top. I have tried to clean it up but that didn't help a whole lot. However, the more I look at it the more it looks like a script "P"
Any ideas on the ball button and clip?

Ball button, suspender clip and finial from around early to mid 1800's.

Re: Ball button, shell casing and maybe a garter clip?

Your casing's headstamp is a "raised" letter, instead of an indented letter. "Raised letter" headstamps are seldom seen. The most common of the single raised-letter headstamps is an H ...not a "plain" letter H, but an H with a serif on each corner of the letter. When a serfied letter H is corroded/concreted with dirt-crust, it could appear to be a B or an E. When a serifed, raised letter H is seen on small-caliber cartridges, it represents the Winchester company.

As shown in the attached photos, sometimes the H appears within a circle, which I seem to see around the letter on your .32 casing's base.

Re: Ball button, shell casing and maybe a garter clip? New Pic added

Maybe this picture will show the mark a little better. I am 99% sure it is a script "P" There is definitely a closed loop at the top and a foot with a slight upward curve at the end.

 beat me to it. I will add what info I have also.

rimfire cartridges made by the Phoenix Metallic Cartridge Company between about 1878, when they first began using the raised 'P' headstamp, and 1891, when the company's assets were taken over by the American Metallic Cartridge Company. Phoenix Cartridge Company evolved through four earlier cartridge making firms, beginning in 1864 with Fitch, Van Vechten & Company, then the New York Metallic Cartridge Co in 1865, the American Metallic Cartridge Company in 1867, and finally Henry W. Mason Company in 1870. All of these companies were located in New York City.

Thanks for the info on the casing. I took that picture through a magnifying glass while holding the glass in one hand and my camera in the other. The casing was stuck on the eraser end of a pencil and the pencil was propped up between some keys on my keyboard. I have found some unusual stuff at this site. Now, can anyone tell me what the suspender(?) clip is? Is it a suspender clip or a sock clip or what?

Being 2 inches wide with fancy scroll, I would definetly say Suspender clip. It should also be from the same era of your other finds mid 1800's.

NovaTreasure and Timekiller, thank you for supplying the correct ID.

Fyrfytr1, thanks for cleaning the casing and posting the after-cleaning photo. I was relying on an extensive list of cartridge-casing headstamps (markings) from a cartridge-collector website, which lists a "P" mark but not a "raised-P" mark. I'll add it to my computer's copy of that website's list.

I have some doubt as whether that is a suspender clip, usually a suspender clip gradually thins down to a smaller size in order to hold the button. It might even be something that fits onto a buckle tho. But then again I could be completely wrong. :icon_scratch:
