Bahamian gold and silver. -UPDATE!!

Just got home from a cruise and I dragged my Excal 800 and an RTG scoop along with me. One of our stops in the Bahamas we were planning on spending some time at a beach, so I spent that time detecting!

I only wish I could have had weeks to stay there. I don't know if it was from recent weather, or if there just very little hunting pressure on the beach I hit. I hunt the wet and water only (no dry). There were targets everywhere. Lots of coins, many of them heavily corroded. Lots of iron, and of course a few pulltabs. In my short hunt time I mamaged to pull two gold rings and a pin I think is silver. I haven't cleaned it yet. One of the gold rings has some corrosion, but it a 9ct ring and it's engraved from '57 so I'm pretty sure its gold (or as real as 9ct can be). The other is a small ladies and I beileve it's 18kt, but it's either weakly stamped or very worn.

Anyway, BOTH rings were found with coins in the same scoop and one had an iron pin in the hole also. Such prime conditions, so little time! They were both in the wet sand while the tide was out. I would have loved to have my scuba gear too (along with even more time :sadsanta: ). There was a 3 foot sand cut beyond the low water line. All fluff and beaver tails along the cut. Beyond was only a light covering of sand over limestone base. Oh, I can only dream what was laying out there just waiting to be picked up froma light fanning. :o

Lastly, I found 2 square, brass or bronze pins maby 1.5 inches long and bent over at the tip. Any ideas what they might have been from?

I will get some pics of the finds posted tonight when I get home and get my camera downloaded.

OK, here are a couple of the pics.

Top row is the remains of a watch, marble and cufflink. Second row is the strange square brass nails, then rings and what I think is a silver barrett.

Close up of the marking. After some scrubbing I'm more confused. It seemed like plating flaking off with a brass base. The inner markings aren't much corroded, but if it was plated, I would think those would be the first to corrode

strange to see plating done with nine kt. You would think if it is plated it would have been a much higher kt.
good looking hunt Jason

Nice!! Congratulations!!

I just stopped by the coin shop on my lunch break and had the 9ct ring and the barrett tested. Sadly, the barrett isn't silver, but the gold ring IS REAL!

I took some sandpaper to a section of the outside last night and I felt even more certain it was plated brass. but I had him test the clean spot and the 10K solution didn't disolve the streak. So happy to have pulled these 2 golds!
