I was in my bank today getting some money to buy some silver and nonchalantly asked the teller about bags of coins. I have never bought any just boxes. She told me these bags are clear plastic with a line and if she wasn't so busy she would have shown me one.
Anyway I've been thinking about trying some bags and they have some bags so what do you guys think.
Also how do they know how much is in them just by a line?

Most likely $1k bags off a coin counter. Good deal if the coin counter doesnt reject silver. If so, you got 2000 clad to dump.

I don't believe they have a coin counter as I haven't seen one. Does that mean I have to wrap the coins before dumping them? and is it worth it?

Hey Wild Man, the bags are filled by counters that we all know are not that great. I have bought bags for 4 years now and I adopted a policy for myself. If the bags are over, oh well. If the bags are under, I just suck it up and hope the silver I find will make up the shortage. The worst bags for accuracy are dimes. Halves are best for accuracy.
If the teller says we rarely fill a bag, I would jump on it. If they will admit to you they get a lot of dumps, I would be less excited. I would still take a chance if your dump bank situation is stable. If you have a krappy dump bank, getting rid of excess coins becomes a pain in the a$$. Go for it !!!! JP

Some banks ship their bags off to the armoured car companies. They throw it in their counter and the bank gets credit for what was in the bag. As we all know(almost all know) a $1000 bag of halves weighs roughly 50-52 pounds(I have had both weights)
The banks cannot trust a scale except to get them in the ballpark. JP

They go by counting and weight. It has to be within a certain area to be accepted.

I do the bags and boxes out here and I perfer the bags. Easy to dump and sort, when finished load it back up count the ones taken out and off to the coin counter they go. Best of luck.

Just checked with the bank this morning and it wasn't busy so the tellers told me everything they do with the bags and even showed me the bags. They only fill the quarter bags and half dollar bags once or twice a year and now I have first dibs on them and they will call me when they are ready.
I don't want to mess with the dime, presidential dollar or penny bags.
They also asked me if I collected Canadian bills so they brought out what they had and I bought these two which cost me $13.40 and the only reason I bought them was because they where 1954 and the other reason was that it made them so happy to get rid of them, they where actually jumping up and down. Wonder what would have happened if I had bought them all. :laughing9: :laughing9:

OH Nice, that might be a good score on the bags, I just became freinds with a teller in my area, and told her that I like collecting the old coins, and she said, that they just got "Rid" of some Franklin halves..and the way she said it, was like they were a pain in the arse to keep there..But then she told me she will keep any oldies aside for me from now on...the good thing is the fact its my Dump bank,..so im pretty much there every other day at least

Good Luck

I do bags as much as possible. I can't believe their quarter bag only fills once or twice a year.

Small town, small bank, only 6500 people and there are about eight banks intown.

Thanks for the answer to my question. I get most of my coins from a town of 11,000 people. There are only 3 banks in it. And two satelite drive-ups. Just my thoughts, but it is possible that they refuse to accept coins from the general public. But if you are a customer and they will save them for you, go for it. Afterall a couple times a year won't cost you much time, if they are skunks. But I would find most supplier banks, even if it means opening a small account.
