Finally got my scanner hooked back up, just in time, because I found this last night, and have no idea what it is. Its about 3/4 of an inch from top to bottom. It looks like it was gold plated at one time, as there is quite a bit of it remaining. The entire edge of the item resembles a wreath. On the bottom, is a pair of crosswords, over a wreath. There are three stars above, to the right, left, and below of the swords, and one in the center of the wreath, 13 total. Something to do with orignal colonies/states? In the semi-circle above the swords, is an insignia that looks like two "S"s side by side over top of a "V". The semi-circle could possibly be a rising, or perhaps setting sun, because there are what appears to be
"sunrays" all around the semi-circle. Anyony have any ideas?

Thank you.

Anthony

Detect,

very nice artifact. No help here with an I.D.

Looks military. S? two SS? V=victory. How about something to do with Spanish American War?

What type of location did you find it at? Place where reunions would be held?

Again, very nice find.

have a good un.............

Stoney and Shermanville,

Thanks for the ideas. It was found in the park I have been hunting the last few weeks. The park is in upstate New York, a little bit north of Albany. It is possible it could have some to do with the military, or some sort of military regimental reunion, as the park has a couple of monuments dedicated to different wars, and I am sure that several military folk have gathered for various functions in the park, over the years, such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day celebrations and possible monument dedication ceremonies. I am told the area of the park where I found the pin, years ago, used to have cannons erected there, but they were removed several years ago. I do not think it is that old though, as it was only 3-4 inches. The coins I am finding at that depth are from the 50's and 60's in this park.

Thanks again.

Thanks for trying Leon. Although, I would call it more of pin. Its only about the size of a dime. I was thinking some sort of lapel pin or tie tack.

Looks "Pre-civil war to me"!

The design is indicative of earlier pieces than civil war.

I'd check into it more if I were you,

Very nice find!

Nice find. My GUESS is that the "SV" stands for "Sons of Veterans". The crossed swords generally are a cavalry designation. What does the fastener on the back look like? -it might help determine the age. -Ben
