Hello

This is an item from a box of bits and pieces in an antique sale in England.

It measures 57mm diameter.

It weighs 97gms weight.

Made of lead or pewter with iron loop and fixing studs.

Affixed with a cast ? Earl’s ? coronet.

Is it a buckle, a badge or a piece of horse harness ?

What age is it ?

Thanks for any help

Best

Peter

Agree, I'm thinking on the headstall. Here is a photo of a U S Cavalry headstall, probably Civil War era, showing where I think
your rosette was probably used. I'm wondering if yours is military?

Thanks guys for your very quick responses. Further internet searching using your term of harness rosette took me on to bridle rosette and low and behold, a near identical item to the one I have.
BRIDLE ROSETTES -          THE COLLECTORS HORSE BRASSES
Antique white metal Coronet bridle rosette (ref:M806)
Antique white metal bridle rosette, Coronet with a raised edge. Complete with original back loop.
Circa 1890.
In good condition, some lead bleed to the Coronet and edge, the raised edge is a little out of shape as seen.
2.25 inches dia.

Sorry I can't quite fathom how to import the images shown on the link.

Now that you have led me to what the item is, I can quite see it adorning the headdress of a carriage horse and identifying the carriage occupant as a man of title.

Well done everyone and thank you.

Best regards to all
