I would say open a savings account for $25 or something like that. As soon as you quit using them then close the account. You are out nothing and have had use of the coin counter.

Yeah, i've been thinking of opening an account at Bnk Atlntc myself, just for the use of the coincounter and the 7 days a week deal.

I stated an account at a bank I found a counter at while CRHing. After about 3 weeks and dumping 3-4 grand they talked to me about charging. They were also tired of changing the bags everytime I came in. I reminded them that when I opened the account they told me unlimited use and amount. They backed down. They gave me bags that hold $500. I just put my account # on them and get 5 large. The manager I had words with eye %(#&'s me when I come in but who cares. A deal is a deal.

Welcome to my world partner ;)
That's all right. I was prepared to go over her head if she tried to cut me off. False advertising? I don't think the suits would be to happy with her, or the Feds. Trust me, we have our rights no matter what the bottom feeders try to tell us. It's all about CORPROATE policy.

Personally I don't see what the problem is really. I mean, if YOU didn't supply them with a butt load of coins like that they'd have to order them and pay the armored car company to bring them in to them. In a way you are doing them a favor really.

I could see them getting upset if you were throwing clinkers in there and jamming the machine up constantly but just to use it. That is what disgusts me so much about banks nowadays, they act like they are doing YOU such a big favor by taking your money.... yah go Q@# yourselves.... Now I can begin to understand why grant grandpa never did trust banks and kept his stash in a jar or a pillow.

For what it's worth, you might want to invest in a coin counter yourself. Royal Soverign makes a few decent ones. Im not talking the toy ones either but a real one.

Right to a point. They can use coins, but not halves. Nobody uses halves. Just think, when was the last time someone gave you a half back in change. They just have to ship them out.

See that is the problem, nobody gives out halves as change, unless you come to me. If you go to the Taco Bell I work at then you may get a half or two in change.

I try to dump them at night. If you have 50+ cents in change I will give you a half I would like to see them and dollars used more and the penny cut off as change.

After the total an tax is calculated
unless the total is less then .05 If less then .05 roun up.
.01-.02 round down .03 .04 round to .05.
.07 -.08 round down and .09 round up.

So if you bill looks like

10.00
+ 83 cents tax

10.83 total
10.85 total.

Most people toss there pennies anyways. and I try to do that as a rule and my till is usally in order.

the next person might be
1.82 total and have to pay 1.80

and the end result is zero.

Well I am sure wrong topic sorry.

and yes I give dollar coins out as much as possible.

Firecrest, that's kind of a good idea there but... sadly, accountants, corporate drones and the IRS don't smile too keenly on approximations or .. in theory it should average out.

Then again, lets say I am the type of person who goes to the Arf and Barf for breakfast every morning, and pretty much orders the same thing over and over every morning... yes I am boring as hell but entirely predictable :P My order comes to $5.83.... I live on a fairly limited income and dammit I do not WANT to give you my extra two pennies, they are mine...it's the principal of it. and they would add up to a free breakfast or two at the end of the year...

You know the type of people who will drive 15 miles and waste $4.00 in gasoline just because something is 50 cents cheaper at a store across town.

But I see your point, pennies are outdated, time to be rid of them.
