>:( What a month.....

This has been the worst month I have had in many years. I lost my job and am now looking for work. Bills are piling up quick and taking over most of my thoughts. It's causing me stomach problems and making me feel like a p.o.s. not being able to pay them on time. I got a new neighbor who is queen of loud mouth white trash. She is 18 with a 2 year old and turned my place into a 14-19 year old hang out. They have already damaged the front and back porch of my house. The party goes on till 6 am and includes yelling every minute at the top of her drama queen lungs. I think 5 people live in the efficiency one room apartment that she rents. When she is not being loud her cat does the job for her crying loud in the hall to get it in for 3 hours before she opens the door. I know she is going to be living at my place for a long time because the government pays bills for her lazy butt. A few days ago the transmition went out out of my 03 neon which isn't helping my job hunting situation at all. The car just broke 100k and I did not figure I would be having problems for another 50 thousand miles or so. I don't even own a bike, So it's either stay home or walk to find work.

I was stressed to the limit. I decided to blow off some steam and metal detect my yard at 3:00 this afternoon. I have not had time to go hunting since the car went down. I figure it had been a few day and it may help me feel better forgeting about my problems for a few minutes. I put in a fresh set of batteries in my ace and headed out my front door. As soon as I turned the machine on it went nuts scrolling thru the pez lines like the hood lights on night riders car. I figured the batteries were not good so I tried another set with the same results. I unplugged the coil cable and took it off to clean it (thinking maby this was the problem). Same thing happened when I turned it back on with the clean coil and yet another set of AA's. Must be a bad coil :icon_scratch:. I could try to hunt my yard with the pinpointer ::) or try my two box on the yard ::) (My landlord would love 5 foot deep holes dug on his property). My verdict was to just give up for the day. I guess it gives me an excuse to buy the big coil... after I get a job, pay my bills, and then pay to get my car fixed. What a month. At least I can watch youtube video's of people hunting.

There's good times, and then there's bad times. You're just having a bad time.

Here's a list of a few things that might make your life a little easier, therefore better:

A cat noose
A crappy Reggaeton CD that you can blast at 3 am to annoy your white trash neighbor, and
A Japanese car

I don't think I got to meet you at the barbeque, I think you were there. The Ace is good, you might have been picking up some interference. We should get a hunt together soon.

Hang in there, homey.

Yeah I remember having to pull one or more fellas out of the bath tub in the shared toilet down the hall at a place I rented when I was 15. These guys came from another land far south and west and had never seen a bathtub and thought it was a fine place to pass out drunk nightly. So I'd drag their English as a Foriegn Language selves out and roll 'em down the stairs every day. Then fist fight the other three or four of 'em over walking rights down the hall. Tinkled in their beers more than once he he.

Just wondering, you ever actually use that Gemini? Dug an old wash basin at 3 feet once using my old CZ-5, figured that was big enough, deep enough for me to last a lifetime. Not trying to be nice, just saying trade that big box for a ball bat and quiet those neighbors. If you can't sleep, you can't get a lot of other stuff done you know!?! You could always be nice and call the cops, but then they figure you for light and you end up having to beat them with a ball bat anyway.

Be positive! It is always better to have initiative on your side.

Yeh we didn't get to talk much at the hunt. I was the guy in a black shirt (drinking the Guinness) with a back pack on. I wish it was just interference with the detector. I have pulled 40+ coins out of the yard with no problems with interference. The ace is going all crazy like it does when the batteries are about to die. It worked fine last time I used it and it didn't get dropped? I read another post like this with the ace going crazy and it turned out to be a bad coil. I don't know how the coil goes bad from just sitting for 4 days.

The other stuff in my original post was just me blowing off steam. The detector going down was the straw that broke the camels back. The neighbor will eventually shut up, I will find another job soon, And the car will get fixed. Its one of those things that you feel better the minute you say it. Its all good in my neighborhood.

I looked up prices at Windy City on the ace coils: $80 for the stock, $68 for the sniper, $90 for the 9x12 big boy.

http://www.windycitydetectors.com/garrett-coils.htm

Looks like its going to be between the sniper and the 9x12 for me. They both have good advantages and disadvantages. The sniper can do a great job in a trash area (but needs to be swung 2 times more to cover the same ground). The 9x12 can cover some ground quick while going deep (but may hide good stuff mixed in with the trash).. :icon_scratch:. I am leaning towards the sniper just on cost alone. I hope it doesn't lose depth compared to the standard coil. I would not be replacing it right now if it had not quit working on me.

Edit:
Hmm.....I want to hunt some beaches next summer and that 9x12 sure would come in handy ;D. I think I would end up getting a 9x12 later on if I got the sniper now. I guess the question is would I ever bother to take off the 9x12 to use the sniper?

I say get the 9x12, I have that coil down to an art!!! I could tell if a coin was within an inch of a metal post at a tot lot. As with any coil, you just have to put in the hours listening and learning what its telling you. I have never used the sniper coil so I dont know.

Hope things turn around for you soon bud.

Hey Robert,

Sorry to hear that you are feeling low like a snake in a rut. Even so low, you can survive being run over by a large truck tire while you are down there.

I'm going to try and help ya out the ways I know how.

First, motivation... let's get your detector fixed up.

Hopefully you haven't tried the FACTORY RESET yet because it should fix your knight rider display.

1. POWER Push Button - Press and release to switch the unit ON and resume hunting with the same settings and modifications used prior to turning the unit OFF When the POWER Push Button is pressed and held for 5 seconds the ACE 250 will return to the factory recommended settings of each MODE. Note: after turning detector OFF, wait 3 to 5 seconds before turning back on.

If that still doesn't do the trick... check to see if you don't have a severed cord or anything. Got cats? Check and clean out your coil cover if you have one. Make sure you are not close to any unusual power lines that weren't there the day before.

Second, more motivation and peace... let's fix your neighbor up right.

Start with talking to her and asking nicely to knock it off at least twice... then you won't feel so bad about the next steps.

Next call the cops... report under age drinking and adults supplying minors with alcohol. The more you call the cops out for these things, the more they are going to get pissed off at your neighbor and do something about it that is going to make her think twice about doing it again.

Get a siren... one of those loud ass 120dB ones... or a 12V Harbor Freight air car horn and wire it up in a nearby tree with batteries and a remote control. The next time she throws a party, let that mother rip and don't stop until everyone has left. Wait until she goes to sleep and then the second coming is a bitch!

Tap into her phone line and order pizzas in the early morning every other day that you are not calling 900 numbers. If she has a cell, potentially get her number from social engineering one of her party friends into giving it to you. Then post it around town for a variety of different better-than-free services that she offers. Call companies like the cable, phone, home improvement, etc.. to come out and give her free estimates on stuff. Usually they just need an address the fact that she's interested and she's done for.

Take her cat and bring it to an animal shelter. Hopefully someone will adopt it, far away. You can't feel bad about that. She obviously doesn't care enough about it anyway.

Not much I can say about the car, except that I had a 96 Neon and it was a great little car while it lasted. Depending on the price, a rebuilt trans might be more of an investment than it's worth. Not sure. Check out the Bus schedules because those PACE buses are everywhere now.

I really hope your month starts turning around soon man! Keep a chin up :)

Brett

P.S. Start eating these every morning!

The reset worked and I am back in business!!!!!! I had no Idea it could be reset. The only 2 post I found on the Ace going crazy were both bad coils. Tomorrow after I am done job hunting I am going to hit up a local park. I have had nothing but good news since I posted this thread. Looks like things are getting back to normal.

RootMaster you rock!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweeeet! I'm glad that worked out MaxMoney! Looks like you are back in bidness.

As for the coil choice, I always heard the larger coil didn't gain much depth but if I were you and I wanted to do beach hunting I would go for the larger coil. Even an inch will help. Just don't forget to run with the sensitivity to the max (unless you are getting way too many falses to handle). Now if you have some trashy old parks and home sites, the smaller coil might be the way to go. But you will definitely start to get impatient when you are out of the trashy areas with the small coil, especially the 4.5" sniper. I just change back to the large coil keep swinging and go back through the trashy areas that I just cleaned out to go a little deeper. I'm running the SE Pro 11" coil and the Detech Excelerator 6" coil. Either way I think you'll be happy if you try to use them for the right purpose. I did recommend to my brother who has an Ace 250 now, that he should get the sniper next... but that's mainly because of where he hunts now. If he were still in Florida I might be inclined to go with the larger coil.

I'm well over 21 but I'm still tryin' to be young at heart. I'll take you up on that offer next time we meet. Thanks! HH!
