Went back to the silver spitfire field this morning. The weather was dry and warm, what a pleasant change. I decided to concentrate on one small area, rather than just wonder around the large field. It's the type of field, that doesn't really have any hot spots. I think the finds from this field, are just random losses, that have built up over the centuries. Best find by far was this fantastic 17th century traders token. Issued by Thomas Watson, from the town of Kingston-upon Hull in Yorkshire in the year 1668. The shield shows the Tallowchandlers arms, which was his profession. As you can see the condition of this token is exceptional to say the least !!!. Think a couple of beers will go down well tonight. Robert.

That condition is like winning the lottery! Or having your favorite beer company drop a refrigerated trailer full of perfectly chilled ales in front of your house

Fantastic coin and beautiful condition too!

Steve

Looks like Mr. Watson used a good alloy for his tokens. And the soil was kind. Congrats Rob, beautiful example!

Thanks Ahab8, yes the condition is great, this beers not too bad either.:laughing7:

Very nice indeed.

It's been awhile since I've had one as nice as that & it doesn't help that I lost one of my best fields for finding them in good condition (sandy soil). I got one a couple of weeks back but it was in bad condition.

This makes me want to look through my collection!

Hello Cru, true sandy soil really protects these tokens. Robert.

Beautiful condition...congratulations! :occasion14:

What a beauty Rob, what more could anyone ask for in getting one out of hte dirt looking as crisp as this one. Congrats

The other item on the coil, I've read different versions on actually what it is, what's your take?

Hello pepperj, the other item on the coil. Well I could say it's an holy Knights of the sepulchre badge, (crusaders). Sadly these things are actually 19th century furniture decoration. I've found loads of them over the years. I'm sure if you look on ebay, someone will be selling one as a crusader badge. Robert.

Incredible find, amazing condition! I don't drink, so please have mine as well!
