Even though my buddy and I hit this place pretty hard, I just had to go back to see what we missed. Lots of EMI at this site, so, I played around with different frequencies and coils. I managed to squeak out a few more goodies. A couple of wheat cents, a merc, an Army man that's seen better days, part of a pocket knife, a 2 1/2 lb. bar bell weight, some bullets and shell casings, and the cast brass crossed cannons insignia. Any idea on age and use of the cannons? It measures 1 3/4" across and 1" tall. Not sure what that brass item is in the middle. I also found a little tag that has Irvine & Jachens SF on it. They appear to be a silversmith company from 1926 to 1950, but, this seems to be maybe silver plated copper. they also made medals and badges too after looking them up. Just a curious little bit of history.

Sure looks like you missed a lot first time. Nice going

Nice recoveries. It is always good to check out an old site you have hunted before.

The crossed cannons have been used by artillery units since before the Civil War and are still in use today. In the early 1900s the insignia was modified making the cannons thinner and including those "dots" on the barrels. I can't give an exact age, but its not any older than 1905. If you have access to "Encyclopedia of United States Army Insignia and Uniforms" by William K. Emerson there's detailed photos and descriptions of most Insignia badges.

Notable return hunt, congrats.

Yes, you did well to go back and try different frequencies and discs. You and your friend left a lot behind the first time.
