Back to the "Cave", Silver coins, Buffalo, Wheaties and Need ID help on few items

Went back to the cave today to hit the same areas where the walls are being pulled out. Met up with Max, The Guru, fedexjimmy, Bobby and some others throughout the hunt. The work crew was still picking up a pile of debris but as soon as they were done I got the go ahead from them and started moving in and around some of the remaining debris. I immediately started digging great sounds, coins all around! Almost all of them were completely covered in a concretion made up of sand and the creosote (that has been leaching out of that old wood for a LONG time!) that came off with a minimal amount of work. I couldn't just keep it too my self so I flagged Max and Guru down and told em to get the hell over here! Thry jumped in as well and started pulling "cookie" coins as well. A few were brokeen open and we were seeing silver quarters and a few halves and buffalos and lots of wheaties.

You can see how crudded up the coins all were. In the end I pulled a Silver Walking Liberty 1/2 Dollar, No date to be found, it's really toasted, a Sliver Washington Quarter (toasted), a Buffalo nickel (toasted), and 9 Wheat Pennies (ALL toasted). The only coin that came out of the "cookie" in decent shape was the buffalo and even there, the date is unreadable. The pennies are all wafer thin. As you can see there was also a plethora of other stuff as well. Realize that almost everything you see here came from a 40' x 40' area that 3 of us were hunting in!

Need help on a couple items here:

1st: The coin, This was in another "cookie" but was not complete. It had pieces missing out of it. Cleaned it up as best I could. I tested it and it comes up as silver (unless I'm screwing up the test) so I'm guessing it is a piece of an old quarter but just don't know. Anyone else?

2nd: The bottle, It's 6 sided, clear and has 4OZ marked on the bottom. The opening is different and my wife thought it might be an aftershave bottle. Anyone else have an idea?
UPDATE: surf has said that the bottle if from 1947 and is for after shave lotion, looks like that one is solved too!

Lastly: The "whatsit", At first, when I dug it, I thought it was some kind of old tire valve stem, but after getting it home and cleaned up, I realized it wasn't. It struck me as something similar to a dog whistle I had as a kid (was my father's before that) The mouthpiece was the same and it screwed in and out to change the pitch of the whistle. You can see from the top view of the "mouthpiece" that there is a central core that is iron and not brass. It looks like it could rotate but I'm sure it would be rusted or bound up inside. Anyone ever seen this before? Really like to know what it is, I think it's kinda cool!
UPDATE: I believe Cheri is correct in saying it is a razor handle!

Thanks for looking and I do have to say one thing, the construction guys who are doing the work on the beach are great guys who have absolutely no problems with us out and about while they are working. They are genuinely interested in what we are finding and are even giving us more info on what areas are next and when! (Future Plans!) They have been great throughout. One guy, who was in the excavator, was taking a break after leveling off an area and said I could hunt there for a bit. I heard him start up the machine and I thought something came up and didn't want to get in his way. I moved back and he waved me over and said "no, you're good....I'm just moving this outta your way"! How about that eh? May have to bring these guys some cold beers for their next lunch break! Now....If we could just get on the barges that are hauling away all the wood and still more coin rich sand! Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any thought on the 3 items I'd like to get ID's on!

Nice finds.. To bad those coins are so rough.. At least you were able to rescue them..

I think your whatsit is a screwdriver handle.

Yep, the last item has the part that holds the blade broken off. You twist the bottom and it would open, put in the double sided blade.and screw it shut. Called a 'safety razor', I guess safer than a straight razor, lol.

Cheri

I think Cheri nailed it on the razor! No that you said it, I look at it and realize why it looks so familiar. I remember my Grandfather using one, and my father when I was young. Great call Cheri (StoneyRun)!

Hello DocBeav,

I'd say listen to your bride on this one. It was made at the Huntington, W.Va. plant of Owens Illinois Glass in 1947. It goes nicely with that safety razor handle.

Not the identical bottle but similar:

Thanks for the bottle ID surf! Great job!

I like that, whatsit. I'm gonna use that now. Great finds, congrats and HH!
