This camp is in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, those guys sure got around.
Yepper. Covered some ground. They were stationed here awhile. Found a belt plate, dutch oven, and a plethora of bullets and buttons in their camp sites. Good luck searching their camp.

I notice the different castings of the bullets. Some filled hte mould better and some had moulds with halves that were not exactly indexed. Having cast lead bullets myself, I know how tricky it can be to get quality bullets so it is not surprising the quality varies in a camp setting.

Fullstock How do you find these sites to detect ? I mean where do you look ?

Went back to the 5th Ohio camp today, I thought I had cleaned it up pretty good, but I found a new hot spot. I found six .69 caliber mini balls (that’s what these guys were armed with) and my 4th sutlers token from this camp. It was hot, but it was a good day.
Very Cool!!!! Congrats!!!!

Gare, I do a lot of research trying to locate camps by reading period documents and books, then I go door knocking. This particular camp was just a lucky find, I walked into it by scouting the area looking for something else. Research and luck have worked for me many times.

I always look for documents written either during the war or shortly after it. As the years went by, memories weren’t as reliable.
