Went to the school twice that I've been to the last 4 times. Found lots more clad (oldest 1967) which isn't all shown, and played with detector settings. They must have regraded the land or something when all the extentions were added. Or the new buildings cover all the good areas. :-[ Total for two trips: 7 Q, 2 D, 2 N, 28 P.

Found one more silver ring (big - fits my thumb and is a little loose :o). Looks like 925 on the inside of the band, but it is partially rubbed out.

I'm moving on to other areas since I haven't found many older coins/items. I'll come back when I have more experience. Plus I want a change in scenery. :P On to high school, or city parks.

Re: Back to School, one last time

Nice ring Sheldius!! Congrats on that sweet silver.
Looks like one of your quarters was a lawn mower victim.
I found a penny today that was in even worse shape,
not from a lawn mower, from? You just never know I guess.

Yeah, there was another one like that as well (the day I only found clad). The gardener only seems to hate quarters, though. :D Now, how do I get those into my rolls for the bank ???.

Hey, what's that thing at the top of the picture? I have one just like it.

Sheldius- nice finds.

Modern day Warrior - It's a drawer pull.

Re: Back to School, one last time

Thanks all. I agree with nealb, its a back plate for a drawer handle. I've found a few lacthes and handles around the school yard as well.

Still wondering why I could only find one rosie dime (1949) since the school shows up on the 1938 aerial photos. Oh well. :'(

Re: Back to School, one last time

On the question of how often to visit modern sites (schools, parks, etc.) that restock. Went back to a popular park I visited about a month ago.

Pretty amazed at what restocks. :) Found a car (in sand box), a nice charm, an interesting buttom, and a Dave & Busters token. Also $1.33 in clad. Plus detecting went much faster this time. I was able to detect the entire area in 2 hours before I melted. :D

I really am trying to run down the batteries, but they hang in at 3 or 2 bars. I have at least 40 hours of operation so far. Since it takes 6 "C" cells, I want to get my money's worth. ::)

Hi Dr S!!

I would like to see "once a year" on your poll.
That's about right for me at least, for schools, maybe parks too.

As far as the batteries, it's great to experiment.
Personally, I keep track of the time my machine is on and change them every 25 hours. I just seem to find more when the batteries are fresh. I think the singals where you just swing over the edge of the target are heard on fresh batteries and maybe missed on old ones. I guess each machine is a little different, but the finds are greater for me on good batteries.

Keep up the hard work, that's the thing that gains the most rewards, thta and using your instincts. Good luck!

Smiles!

Happy to oblige you. Thanks for the nice comments and taking time for the poll. Wish more would give me their feedback on this.
