Well after exchanging the typical V-day gifts in the morning, my wife took my son to a V-day party, and I went over to my Dad's house. My Step Mom and Sister went off to a birthday party... and as the door shut I said to my Dad, "so are we going metal detecting?" To which he instantly replied, "You're G D right we are!"

I got my gear and off we went, back to the site my Dad was at yesterday. The same place I got my first two indian head pennies.

The ground was mushy soft and super easy to dig, at least down to about 7". After 7" it was still pretty frozen... which was driving me nuts because I had some deep signals that I just left because I didn't feel like doing all that digging and chipping away. Chipping away at frozen ground near where your find is, is about the last thing you want to be doing.

That said, I found several wheaties at 2" and a few more at 5 to 6". Newest was 1956-d (one of the 2"ers) and oldest was 1941-p (deeper).

I was having a hard time finding anything decent by the area I found my indians before. This is the same area I had found a bunch of wheaties and of course my Dad found his Merc and indians not far from where I found mine. We pretty much cleaned up that area, so I was off for a new spot. I kind of wandered around until I saw an interesting "hidden" pathway. I started finding things like the keys, which are different MFG's but cut and stamped "38" the same. Then I found some wheaties and a thimble which turned out to be aluminum (DARN!). But the signals were popping out everywhere.. and I hit what sounded like another wheatie, but it turned out to be the 1963-p Rosie at a depth of only 3 or 4".

So my second silver for the year and the ground is barely thawed.

Feel the love :)

Hey nice finds Brett! Too bad about the thimble...I sure thought it was silver. Sure was nice to get out today and dig some goodies.
