We got really whacked.? We had a 8 foot storm serge and most people lost their cars.? We ended up just getting about 2 feet in our downstairs, but a lot was ruined.? We had no power for a couple weeks.? The generator ran strong.? A lot of people left Key West for good.? Our casino boat, 110', broke lose and is now resting in the flats in 1 foot of water.? There is no way they can get it out of there.? There are sailboats everywhere in the flats - 45 foot boats in 6 inches of water!
One of the lines on the boat broke lose at 4:30am, at the height of the storm.? I had to go out in 120mph wind gusts to fix it.? If you picture our canal heading east to west, my boat was up over the dock, almost south to north.? It was 5 feet over my dock but the water was so high it did not hit.
I had to get a line to the bow and tied off across the canal.? I tried throwing a 25lb anchor across the canal, into the wind but when I tossed it the wind caught it and it landed on the other side of me!? So I went upstairs, wading through chest deep water, got a 5lb weight, attach it to the anchor line, and was able to throw that across the canal.? I had to walk around the canal, down the street in thigh high water to the other side.? When I walked between 2 houses, I was immediately knocked down into the water.? When I finally found the line, it took me 30 minutes with all of my might to get the boat pulled back into the canal.? It was the hardest physical thing I had ever done.? When I finally got the boat turned, the tree stumps I had to tie it to were three feet underwater.? I wrapped it around the first, then to the second, then to a third, and made some kind of a knot and hoped it would hold.? It held.?
We have stayed for all of the Hurricanes since George, but nothing was like this.?
Just thought I would give you an update.
