Hello Everyone, here is an update on my recent trip out west, August 12-20th. We Flew from NC into Denver Co. We rented an Rv and drove up into the Rockies. We stayed a few hours in the Central City (old gold mining town) and the Idaho Springs area where we learned how to gold pan with seeded paydirt at the historic Argo Gold Mine. We drove thru Leadville but no RV campsites (was a bicycle rally in town)
We drove over the Continental Divide and stopped at Independence pass and tried gold panning for real (no luck). In all, we visited Arches National Park, Monument Valley from Arizona, and the Four Corners monument. A few short miles into New Mexico, we drove back into Colorado and hiked into the Mesa Verde Cliff Palace but saw no pot shards or arrowheads to photograph. We camped in the town of Durango where we rented a jeep for the day and went gold panning. (still no luck). We visited the town of Silverton, then home.
We saw some of the most beautiful places on earth other than North Carolina. In all, we spent great quality time as a family. I did not find any material treasures, but God showed and reminded me, that the best treasures in life are my family and the freedoms we have as United States Citizens! Thank you God.... I also thank all you Military Veterans for protecting our freedoms and Our Lands!

You're right claydog5 that's a beautiful part of the country. We discovered it 9 years ago and make 2-3 trips a year to Pagosa Springs just 52 miles east of Durango. We've roamed the four corners area several times and never get tired of it. We have friends in Pagosa and plan to move there next year if retirement works out. It's truly amazing what God did with this part of the country.

Very glad to hear your update and glad y'all got to see my part of the country first hand here in the middle of the rockies. (If you came west on I-70, you also got to drive under the divide.) Way too much to see and do up here in a short time. Sorry about the bicycle races, but at least you missed the big one which brought an extra 50,000 people into Summit County and involved some major road closures. I've been to all the places you guys got to visit and still haven't looked them over good enough. In the off seasons up here about half the county takes off to Moab, so I'm hopin I get back down to 4 corners in October. Sounds like y'all had a great time and hope you got some good pics. Come back and see us when you get more time!

Been there, done that. Your are right it is an awesome trip and an awesome area. Enjoyed hearing that others enjoyed it as much as we did. Thanks for the uplift.
