ring3.jpgring2.jpgring1.jpgring.jpgAztec Cult Ring found in Los Angles park 50 years ago. Top of ring image is the Aztec God Tlalteuctli/Quetzalcoatl and sides have two helmeted soldiers. Believe this was a cult of the Aztec's that believed Cortes was the returning God Quetzalcoatl. Ring looks as if it was casted in sand. Top and side images look as if it is gold, but when tested, shown it was not gold, but has not tarnished over the years. This might be the early native metal mixture called "Tumbaga". Any suggestions.

Tumbaga is a mixture of gold and copper, so it would probably not tarnish. And tumbaga also predates the Spaniards coming to the Americas. So you may have a 500+year-old ring in your possession, which might be very valuable, not just because of its metals, but its age.

Gold by itself is too soft, so that is probably the reason for the mixture.

I confess I had never even heard of tumbaga, until your post, even though I have spent countless hours in our Mexican museums!

See Wikipedia article on tumbaga here:

Tumbaga was the name given by Spaniards to a non-specific alloy of gold and copper which they found in widespread use in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica and South America.
And looks more like gold.

I learned a bit on this in my study of the “Tumbaga wreck” which sank in 1528 just off Grand Bahama Island...

Cool piece though... appears to be of another metal in pics.

My guess would be a crude silver...
This ring MAY have "ties" to an ancient past in some way...
This will be a "hard" decipher to tell this though.

PS> Looks like a "keeper"
