I am a complete "newbie" but I will support a new server (w/ $$) if someone of you more experienced hands can tell me how to search the site for the words "El Salvador", and I mean the entire site. My particular interest is in shipwrecks off the coast, but my wife and I own a house on an island in the middle of a volcano where various pre-Colonial to post Colonial objects have been found. We also own a property that we're going to develop in the mountains of El Salvador...just outside the park, of course, where the borders of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala meet. She is more interested in searching the land (there were, in colonial times, mines, an iron foundry, Spanish settlement there.

My questions is: How do I search the entire site (land or sea) for key words like "El Salvador"? Everytime I log in and try it from the home page, I receive a message saying "You are not authorized to search this site." altho I am a member (wisellort) and recognized as such upon log-in.

Please help me, and am I the only person interested in the area of Cental America (especially El Salvador, but also the tri-border region or the area where we live (Isla Teopan in Lake Coatepeque, Santa Ana, El Salvador?

I will be forever grateful, as I don't seem to be able to locate the website administrator to ask him/her these questions.

Mil gracias, thanks very much,

Mike

Seems to me you are suffering from a proxy server. I have each day to deal with the Great Fire Wall of China to get any results, almost all the university sites are blocked, in fact anything that I have an interest in seems to be blocked.
Now you can go through free proxies which are available on the web but can be confusing for the not so IT savvy guy so I will share a secret with you, passed down through generations and known only to me and 300 million nerds.

Google is a site that is almost never blocked so using the following adding the URL of the site you are looking for normally does the trick.

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.

Try it by clicking this link, some interesting data at this site anyway.

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.nhc.noaa.gov/pastdeadlya2.html

Also when searching and using the key word El Salvador, you will get many results for the ship El Salvador lost in NC I think ( I have not done any reserch on that ship) you need to filter out results you do not want. but with some imagination and a few word changes you will get different results. You do this by using the advanced search and blocking certain words or phrases, its not perfect but with practice you can get resonable results.

The trick is patience and play with words and phrases, El Salvador as the key word brings in lots of things you do not want to see try others "Galleons lost on the el salvadore coast" of course you will still get sites you do not want but there are millions of sites with El Salvador in them so you have to tease the ones you want to the top of the pile, using different words and phrases makes the difference.

Regards

Mike
