AXE & Valve?

Well I'm curious if anyone has seen an axe like this one before? I haven't. You can notice that on one side it is flat and the other it has some angle to it. Plus the narrow hole. Can anyone help me date it please? Also got what appears to be a valve. But to what? It reminds me of something off a drink bottle. You will notice that there is a side with threads, a side with a flat head screw?? , a side with what seems to be a decoration as it is a solid piece and the little hole opposite of the thread. Would appreciate the help. Oh and the site date 1860 to present. thanks

edit: and apparenlty it is AXE not AX. What grade was that in again?

Re: AX & Valve?

Axe is a broad axe for hewing flat surfaces on timbers . Colonial times to present day . My guess is that yours is older .
WAG on valve is burner valve for an early gas light .

I have one of those too (pic below)... found in an 1860s - 1910s area... truckin is right, it's difficult to age unless you compare it to known finds from the same area and it's used for hewning wood. I've identified mine as an antique broadaxe hatchet / axe head for hand hewed beams etc.

Here's one on top of an antique water cooler . It kinda acts like a vent , so when you turn the spigot to let water out it wont gurgle .
