Not really sure where to post this find at because I'm not sure how old it is. It's a double bit axe that I found in a Creek in southern Illinois this week. Any idea on the age of it?

Thanks for your help!

if i had to guess it would be late 1800's or early 1900s but I am no expert

Here's a tidbit about how axes were made back in the colonial days. It's just a diagram of a different style axe, but it should shed some light identifying older ones.

Bobguy did you ever clean that ax head up & learn any more about it?

I have the stuff in my garage to do it but I just haven't gotten around to it! That's life with young kids!

Cool find. There were a lot of different styles (Michigan, Narrow Michigan, Pa, Humbolt, Peeling, Wisconsin, etc. etc. etc.) of axes made by different companies. If you get it cleaned up a bit, you might be able to pin in down. My guess would be late 1800's through 1930's.

NICE DOUBLE POLE AXE..
