Found this axe at a furnace site used between 1830s and 50s. Was this style axed used then? There was 2 in one hole. The other I could tell was folded because it was broke around seam. Second, digging in my yard in a bottle pit dug this, what looks like a eagle talon came out about 4 ft deep. Not sure why it would be there. Anybody know if that's what it is? Thanks.

That's a belt axe, they have been around a long time, from Viking days to the present.

Way too big for an eagle talon which is a good thing since it is a federal crime to possess parts of eagles unless you are a native American.

Your "talon" appears to be a beaver tooth to me.

Don't think it's a beaver tooth, I've shot plenty and never seen their teeth look like that. If they did I'd shoot them twice lol.

Boar hog tusk - I think I have ran across one nearly every time I have dug through an old dump.
