The wife and I got out for a while today and decided to go and pick a random spot in some fields we gain permission on today. Well the day started out fast. Within 20 minutes I had a good nickel signal and up it came. When it first came out I couldn't tell how old it was. It was super crusty. I decided to use the technique that buckleboyky had told me about in the button cleaning how to section. I carefully used a dry stalk from a plant to "toothpick" my nickel. I did this because I have made the mistake of trying to loosen the crust with water on v nickels before and that just doesn't work. Well to make a long story short I had wonderful results. It revealed a date of 1890 and the coin still had great detail. Soon after that my wife came running with what she was calling a gold brick. That gold brick ended up being a vintage gold plated lighter with an engraving on it. One side said love always and the other side had the initials JPD. But that's was the highlight of our hunt. Thanks for reading about our adventure and enjoy the pics. Hopefully I will have the YouTube video up in a couple of days so check it out and sub.
