Got out to a new permission a couple weeks ago but struck out except for a couple musketballs and the pocket watch frame. Was a bit disappointed but moved on to another more productive site and ended the day with a toasted Conder token. When I got home I took a couple pictures then left everything on the deck until today. I was going to toss the brass into my scrap bucket and the rest sorted and filed away. It had rained rhe past couple days and the dirt had washed off the pocket watch frame...and it wasn't brass!

Tested it with a file and gold testing kit and it's 17 2 grams of 18k gold!

I usually just throw my scrap brass into a bucket and almost did that after taking the first picture...sure glad I didn't!

I'll be heading back there soon to look for the rest!

That's an awesome and unusual find, congratulations!
It happened to me a few times to put aside some top shelf finds just to rediscover them latter on.

Nice! Where I'm at the dirt is unlike I've ever seen before. Sometimes it takes days of soaking and cleaning to remove it. Even on silver. That is if it even comes off.

Now it doesn't get any better than that for a dirty recovered watch frame.

One has to wonder why it was stripped (taken apart) so much.
Used as a form of wealth $$ where the case was used as currency/barter (instead of coinage)
Gold is gold
Congrats

I found a brass pocket watch frame recently and thought nothing of it, your posting is going to have me check it this evening. Very cool finds and the token is very nice too.
