Well, I went and check out a new spot and it turn out to be a pretty good one.
The site was much older then I expected, from 1860s to colonial times..

1769 Spanish half reale. I been told that old silvers like a Spanish reale's that have a hole drilled through the head was worn by slaves for a spiritual thing.

Nice!!! Can't wait for my first colonial silver!

Nice finds but I don't know if I buy the story about holed coins and slaves, plus the coin you dug doesn't have a head. Those one piece convex eagle A's seem to always have a weak strike of the motif, especially the shield and A.

I'm not sure if thats true either. They would need to hide it well, as the value of silver at the time would buy you an nice lunch & beer.

One theory amoungst others was hiding it on the person whilst travelling. If its sewn into your clothes, its harder to steal.

Very nice bunch of finds! I'm not saying it never happened but I doubt too many slaves had an extra silver or much of any money to wear. It's still an excellent find! My only Spanish silver is holed too.

It is hard to believe that slaves wearing money.. Im not saying they did.. It could be a rare thing for that could happen.. But then again, we wasn't living in those times..

I'm with CRU on this one. Usually sewn into clothes to prevent theft on the trail. Nice find!

Spanish silver is always good! The flat brass piece with 2 holes is a ram rod guide
