Averages for dimes?

I was wondering how many silver coins do you guys get from a box of dimes. I've only done 2 boxes but they've given me 2 Rosies on the first box and 2 Rosies + 1 Merc on the second box. That's more than from the 5 boxes of halves that I have gotten (just 1 40%).

It seems like you just have to be in the right place at the right time. I've done about 5 boxes of dimes and only gotten two or three silvers total. But one time I picked up four rolls of dimes and got 10 Rosies and 11 Mercs.

I only buy boxes of dimes (silver value $1.01 each) when I really need a coin fix and can't get anything else. My average is about the same as yours a couple per box. It is more silver than I had the day before.

Quarter average is even worse. Silver nickles are 1 or 2 per box and that box only costs $100. (silver value .79¢ each) So you get more silver bang for you buck doing nickels. Also I save all 1959 and older nickels and I get about a roll +/- per box.

For me searching the dimes is alot faster because you don't have to check every single date. You can open up the roll and look at the edges for the silver.

If you get the rolls in the new clear wrap you don't even need to open. I did that once and brought back 47-48 rolls that were still wrapped (no silver ) and the merchant teller asked what was wrong with them.

I usually buy a box with the clear wrap and make a half slit by any silver, pull it out, replace it with a clad and put a piece of clear scotch tape on it. You can't tell it's been searched and I return the full box intact. Usually 1-3 silvers per $250 box around here. I don't really search a lot of dimes and buy a bag if I come across one.

My dimes average is about 1 in every 900 or so, which would be about 2-3 per box. I did buy a box of dimes once that had 12 roosies in it though which boosted my average.

I also only search dimes when I have no halves to go through. I probably get 1one silver for every two boxes I go through.
