Hi;

Dug a wheel and a headlight knob out of a trash pit and wanted to see if anyone recognized what I might have. The wheel is very heavy, 6 inches tall, three inches wide and has a 2 1/4 center hole.

The knob that came out of the same hole simply has Head light on it. The bottle came out of the same hole and I have posted that in the glass forum.

Anyone?

It might be the water tank for a motorcycle or bicycle carbide lamp.

Looks like an old cart wheel, possibly for a track of some sort. The knob is probably a button as ARRC has stated.

Very nice finds!

Oh jeeze, I thought the "Head Light" was on the base of the 5" "wheel". Gotta work on my reading comprehension. :BangHead:

ARRC, I think you were right with the button reference. The picture of it shows part of a fingernail that would put it at about the right size for a button, rather than a larger display piece. I presume it was thought to be like the old style pull knob from a headlight switch.
I hadn't at first noticed it, being so small compared to the pulley (wheel)

Actually... I just had a thought...
Clothes rack end for head light overalls.

AARC has nailed the button. Dunno why Dug calls it a "knob"??

It was an assumption that I had a head light knob since it came out of the same hole as what appeared to be equipment parts and I was unaware there were coveralls with the head light logo.:dontknow: I are now edumacated.:laughing7:

I agree with ARRC that it is overalls.

Exactly. I apologize for not properly sizing the button/rivet as I had convinced myself it was part of a headlight pull knob assuming I had the wheel housing from a tire. I was more focused on the wheel housing.

a simple guess..wheel could be from a hay trolley...

This wheel is quite heavy for it's size and pretty solid. I was trying to determine whether to expend any time to clean and preserve this based upon responses. I may soak it in Vinegar to see if it brings out any new features.

with that large center hole, looks like for a axle, which would make it seem like a rail system part. What does the edge side look like? can't tell from the pics.

maybe a wheel (or hub) from a nutting truck or railroad platform truck? some have pretty stout wheels.

I went ahead and submerged the wheel-o-rust into a bucket of white vinegar and will let it soak for a few days and maybe come up with some better pics. Some three inch railroad nails were dug in the area, so maybe a trolley wheel. Let me put some pics up in a few days.
