I went to a local auction last Thursday for a collection that was all pretty much entirely personally found. There was a ton of common field grade points and a few higher end really nice pieces which is typical of a personally found collection. Most of it went a lot higher than I thought it would and I guess that's because people knew they were all good artifacts since they were local and personally found. This was from the collection of Ron Kaltenbach of South Webster, Ohio. I got a few decent pieces for what I thought was a reasonable price.

Here is a link to the auction so you can see some of the items that were for sale.

The most expensive thing that sold that day was the Lizard Effigy which went for I believe $350.

Here what I bought. I got 2 Granite Celts, 4 Hematite Celts, 1 highly polished Flint Celt, 4 Plummets(1 granite Acorn type that is finished, 3 Hematite, 1 of which is finished but damaged and 2 that are in preform stage), 1 Hematite Cone, 1 Hematite Bar, 2 small Stone Discoidals, 2 Kirk Points, 2 Birdpoints, and 1 small Drill. There was also a few pieces of Pottery and a couple broken flints in a box lot that I didn't picture.

1st picture is the entire haul.
2nd picture is a close up of the Points, the Cone, the Plummets, and the Discs.

Thanks for sharing....great snaps, too! Please tell me where on line I might go to read about the acorn plummet and the 'cone'....what time frame do you believe these might be from.....any other info would be greatly appreciated....esd
PS...know you had a good time bidding...right ????

That looked like a great auction to go to, DorkFish! What a wonderful collection of artifacts and you found some really good stuff to bring home.
Do you remember what the pottery bowl went for?
Thanks for sharing!

nice artifacts dorkfish, I especially like the granite celt, that sweet drill and the points, what do you call the narrow yellow point with a red tip and serrations? is that jasper? I just posted a Pa types and one point looks very similiar to that piece. I'm glad you Identified that acorn plummet, I've got one just like it and wasn't sure what it was. Nice auction finds to beef up the collection.

sandcreek, the Pottery Bowl was from Arkansas I believe and if I remember correctly it went for around $125.

thirty7, I think the serrated point is a Kirk Cornernotch Point.
