That's a shame. I hope the thieves are caught.

Just a thought...I'm not trying to belittle the situation but I would not let a collection that's apparently worth 300K-500K out of my sight. Even if its only for a few minutes. These folks were definitely followed from the coin show that they attended. Hopefully the police can use traffic cams to track down the thieves.

Im going to get flak for this but unfortunately in the coin collecting community there seems to be a large lack of common sense just from the few shows Ive been too and posts on this forum. A percentage seems to be somewhat sheltered and dont quite know how to deal with people very well. I feel bad for them but at the same time leaving that in you car unattended, even in front of your house, for any period of time is asking for trouble. I hope they catch the thieves but cant feel too bad for the owners and I hope this article is read by as many people as possible so people start making better decisions

Feel bad? They are lucky! They might have killed them if they didn't make it so easy buy leaving it in the car. They are kinda lucky.

Agreed. Also putting the collection in the trunk underneath a blanket is not really a secure method of transporting a 500K collection. Just sayin'.

Yea pretty much leaving a brand new lambo in front of the house with the motor running and keys in the ignition. I dont care if his old lady had to pee, take care of the important stuff first. Common sense and KISS go a long way.

Hopefully this and the home invasion will wake people up a little bit

Too bad we are not getting the whole story about this, it seems only to be a little blurb. I echo what the others said that I feel badly for these people, but a little common sense goes a long way. They should not have been carrying around that much if it was actually valued at what is being reported. Perhaps, since the article states that they are elderly they did not have all of their faculties, don't really know for sure. It could have been someone that they knew, or it could all be fabricated, it just seems like the thieves in this case were too good, they are usually more sloppy. But we are only getting part of the story, so its hard to say for sure

This was my feeling when I read the article... if they were followed then all intention was to get those coins and currency ..
