Hello Again!

I snuck out for a bit this afternoon and hit the same old multiple cellar hole spot I've been pounding lately (see threads http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,136986.msg970273.html#msg970273 and http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,135857.msg960738.html#msg960738). It was another satisfying day in what has been one of the best months I've had yet. (Aside from the poison ivy that hit me on the hands and wrists last week, courtesy of the very same spot. >:( )

The highlight today was finding four Indian Heads in less than 20 minutes, and three of them were within a two-foot radius of one another. By far the best haul I've ever had with IHs. I ended up bagging an 1888, 1890, 1902 and 1905. Yes, as you'll see, I nicked the '88 with my shovel, but when you dig four, it doesn't hurt as much! ;D

This spot also continues to give up oodles of fun relics. Here's what I found today:

  • Silver chain
  • Brass/bronze enameled beetle pin (complete, and neat!)
  • Lower torso of antique lead soldier
  • Antique key
  • Three spoons (that makes eight total for this site!), including one silver-plated teaspoon marked "Simeon L. & George H. Rogers Company A1" and "Pat. Sep. 8 14," also notice the rough, probably after-market "81" stamped on the handle of the big spoon on the right in the first pic)
  • Nice intact blue-glass "Cantrell & Cochran" soda bottle (made in Ireland, baby!)
  • Misc relics & whatsits, including an inkwell lid (second row, left side in the pic); numerous shotgun shells and bullet casings; yet another lantern piece; and more (see pic).

My God, what a difference a good spot makes. Hope you enjoyed looking!

Cheers and HH,
Brendan

Nice finds,

I'd take a indian attack like that anyday. I have before and it's a great feeling.

Nice assortment. Love the IH's. The spoon is from cell block 18. LOL, I still think the spoons are from a prison. :D

Thanks. Now you've got me convinced about your prison theory too! ;)

Thanks Jer. Yeah, I'll take it over a handful of Memorials any day...

Congrats on the finds. The key looks like an old railroad barrell key. Is there any writing on the key or is the site near any railroads?

No writing on the key. The nearest train station is about 1.5 miles away, but it's funny you should ask -- I've found two old brass LIRR luggage tags at the site, one of which may be from the pre-1880s, so the train memorabilia is definitely there.

Hmmm.... I had this big reply to your post and must have hit preview instead of post :) anyway, great digs! Knowing how you hunt, you worked for every one of those :)

Congrats!

Sure hope the weather's good this weekend... I'm thinkin' of hitting a spot I found on the north shore

B,
Congrats on another great hunt. Quite the spot you have there. A lot of nice coins and relics.
Maybe you hit on a spoon cache? ;D You're getting one heck of a collection going there.
Thanks for the post,
MM

Sorry about the poison ivy but it was worth it for that type of haul!

At least the inmates had good appetites, look at the size of that spoon!

I know! The thing's gigantic! :)

Thanks bud. Yeah it's a great place. I actually hit it again today and had some more good finds (I'll post soon). But the spoons are out of control. Maybe the kitchen help got into a brawl and started tossing trays of silverware at each other...

Yeah this spot has been real good to me so I can't complain. I chalk up the poison ivy to a learning experience. I usually spend so much time looking out for ticks that I forgot about the plant life entirely. I won't make that mistake again!!!

Darn! I would've like to have read that.... :)

Yeah, it's work, but things have been going a little smoother lately. This patch of Indians was as easy as shooting for clad at the park. I was astounded. Now if only I could hunt down Seateds and Barbers as easily.... Thanks for the congrats my friend.

Of course I'd love to get out with you sometime soon but who knows. I might be passing out cigars instead! ;) I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,
B
