Atlatls werent made of stone. It would be too heavy and too brittle for that purpose.

It looks like it was bone or antler at one time...broken and petrified now, and perhaps not too clear in the pics, but in person, you can see the original "pattern".

despite what others say, there are atlatl spurs found excavated and in caves, made of stone, bone and antler. there were also at times stones connected to the bottom of the atlatl for balance. I have researched atlatls for years, I make them and use them. what you got looks like a spur, how about a picture with somthing for size comparison?

Totally agree with Coloradocav1. The atlatl was made of wood, sometimes the spur or hook was attached at the end of the stick, along with other stones added for weight, adding power to the throw. Many times the spur was carved wood integral with the shaft, but here are some pictures of the spur being made from bone, or antler and stone.
Comptonr's picture looks to me like an atlatl spur, and if so, it's an awesome find.

It does appear to have an intentional design, plus other atlatl spurs - or what they believe? - made of stone have been found. Sure would like to see more details on the dimensions?

I'm not where I can measure it right now, but it's about 3 inches long, about 2 inches wide, probably another 2+ inches at the tallest/hook portion, and somewhere around 5/16ths to 3/8ths at the opposite/thin end.

It doesn't appear to have been tied to an Atlatl but it does appear to be the male end of the Atlatl to dart . They would use River Cane for the Dart! What is it made of? What size is it? And what does the bottom look like? Banner stones were tied on or drilled through to give the atlatl some weight and gives it an extra boost when thrown for speed and accuracy!

Sorry, I missed the bottom photo. Too flat. What is the composition?

Sorry, but I think it's little too much imagination...

I think it's too wide and tall.
