NW district. Was down retrieving a signal, far away from car and hoping there were no critters around. Being the lonely, paranoid type I growled loudly to make sure nothing would bother me. I was well out of the way, at the edge of a large field near a low spot in small cover.
The muffled scream in my headphones gave me pause to rethink my strategy. Apparently a woman was very nearby, she had walked into the open field, far from the parking lot, with her two large german shepards and one big lab. She was trying to tell them to return as they were hell bent on finding me.
They got to within about 20 feet before returning to her and acting playful. I waited until she cleared the field and then cleaned my shorts with the small trowle I bring along for just such instances. It has a high angle wedge design that fits neatly into the crack of my....

Man it was a remote site, how many people could be there? About a quarter mile later I noticed a guy was across the field looing at me, until I stood and made plain I was looking back. He then lowered his head and moved on. As I circumnavigated the fields edging I looked back a few times and noticed he was following my trail. About 150-175 yards behind me, were it straight lined.
The open field had a clear view back to the road way a half mile away, but that's too easy for my already freaked out self. So I went into the woods proper, leaving a very distinguishable straighttrail for 50 yards then crossed back into the field's edge at some thickets and doubled around them to a low spot.
Sure enough, the guy comes down my trail and passes me w/o seeing me, intent on my footsteps in the snow there, seemingly. I popped out behind him and started swinging my coil and whistling. (It always helps to whistle, Mitch Miller taught me that)
Gotta go now, fix these bullet holes and all. Later.
