I set the ground balance to 20, hold the button in and pump the coil up and down. It makes scratchy sounds but it never moves off 20. I started at 90 with same results. I manual ground balance and it gets quiet at around 70. Also when I pinpoint a coin, left to right works fine, but when I pull the coil towards me the audio never drops off, no matter how far i pull it from the coin. The bars on the screen drop off on the toe of the coil, but the audio keeps humming.

I don't understand how you can "set" the ground balance at 20 or at 90. To ground balance automatically, you hold the GB button in while pumping the coil up & down over clean ground. When the sound is even you let go of the button and it is set till you turn it off. You only look at the indicator # on the screen and rely on the sound to be even.

In pinpoint mode the field is hot from the toe to the heel down the center. That is why the tone is steady as you push the coil forward and pull it toward you. You should turn you body ninty degrees to the side to get the other direction.

In manual GB you press the GB button in and release, pump the coil up and down and use the + & - buttons to adust the tone to being even and press the GB button again and release and you are set. This must be done over ground without metal under the coil.

Are you saying the indicator # wont change, no matter what number I start on ? I try to automatic ground balance with starting numbers that I know are wrong and they dont change.

When you first turn it on where you are going to hunt, the GB # will read some number. As you pump the coil with the GB button held, the number should change according to the ground conditions. When you release the button it is set. But if the ground conditions change the # will change too, but the setting won't till you GB again.

The key here is that you have to push and hold the GB button on while bobbing. If you are doing that and it will not move from you 20 or 90 settings then send it back.

Yeah, I do it like you say. I'm going to call Garrett, but looks like I'm going to have to send it back.

Thanks for the help guys.
