Re: AT Pro & Weight

I am used to swinging the GTI 2500, the Infinium and the Scorpion. The AT pro almost floats in my arm. But on the lighter side (pun intended) even an ACE 250 will tire somebody for the first hunt. If you use any machine often, you will build up endurance to it, unless you have some underlining osteoporosis, osteoarthritis or other muscular neurogenic conditions. Another idea is to work out daily building up your biceps and triceps. Using good body mechanics, such as keeping the detector close to your body and not fully extending the lower coil rod helps also.

Re: AT Pro & Weight

Thanks John.

I figured the 3.3 lbs wasn't that heavy.

I've used mostly Tesoros and its easy to get used to those light weight machines.

Re: AT Pro & Weight

It is more what i would call coil heavy or unbalanced ...........my 1500 weights more but is a lot better balanced so feels better to me.....

I agree with the balance. Even a Tesoro will start wearing on your arm when using a heavier than stock coil on it. With a Cleansweep coil on my Tesoro, overall it is lighter than my MXT, but the MXT is better balanced.

khouse makes the Garrett Gizmo that moves the cuff back a bit and the extra little bit of weight (3 oz.)is said to balance everything much better.

I have one on my AT Pro the Gizmo but still the 1500 feels better to me........

Re: AT Pro & Weight

I agree Keppy, the GTI 1500 is really well balanced, makes it feel lighter than it is. As for as weight goes, I like swinging the ACE250 with the sniper coil.

Re: AT Pro & Weight

One thing I've noticed, and it goes to prove that common sense ain't all that common, is that people like to lengthen the shaft and hunt with a crooked arm. The type of detector that the AT Pro is (and many other detectors) requires that the coil be swung close to the feet in a tight arc in order to be able to hunt long and comfortably. ..Willy.

Re: AT Pro & Weight

Willy is right. The shorter your detector's shaft is the easier it is to sweep. Mine Excal would always go off on my nails in my boots and that is the only detector I need to use the longer shaft. As I get older I feel the need for lighter detectors or I can't hunt near as long and I mostly hang my controls from my neck also.

Re: AT Pro & Weight

I agree with Willy and Sandman, keeping the shaft as short as possible, seems to be less tiring to me.
