Neighbor knocks on my door in a panic he has lost his $6000 gold nugget ring . I ask him were was the last place u had it he replies in his yard picking his tomato plants. So out comes the at pro and had about 20 min before I leave for work scan my gold ring in at around 47 so I have an idea what I am looking for . Well no luck just a lot of trash hits around 47-55 , my question would a 8x5 coil be better for this than the stock coil I would love to find that ring .

It would separate the trash better. Keep eliminating the trash and you will find it. Don't only dig the signals around 47, you will not believe the VDI's that some gold rings come on as depending on size and karat. If its $6000 worth of gold it may ring in much higher also.

I agree with Rob, you don't know what it is going to read, but it's going to be a lot higher than 47, maybe even a high tone. If the ring is on or near the surface you can lower the sensitivity to one bar and still get a good, strong hit. It might even give a mixed tone, (high, medium). Sometimes these mixed tones sound like a bottlecap. Of course checking suspected targets with Iron Audio will help.

Spent a hour and a half no luck on the ring , found a couple pennies and a beer cap :( can't say we didn't try

Wish I was closer to ya bigmatt, I know two of is could find it!

Rob and Signal line are right on what the ring could ring up as. Having had to look for many rings over the years I learned the lost item probably wasn't lost where they think it was. I talk to them about their day to see what they were doing. I've had people leave their rings on the bathroom sink, in the ashtray of the car or put them in their purse for safe keeping. We sometimes find it this way. If I can't locate it I try to leave them a business card so they can call me with their phone # in case I come across the item. I always ask them to let me know if they found it so I don't have to keep thinking about it every time I hunt that beach. That's a bummer when your hoping to find it for them and they have it on their finger again. Course I have been called stupid for this as many guys would just keep the ring as they didn't get a detector to help people.:BangHead:

Matt, you are a good representative of our hobby. If it's a man's ring , it would probably ring higher, I have several gold rings that ring in the high 50s- low 60s. As Sandman said, it isn't always where they think they lost it. By turning down the sensitivity, you will eliminate deeper targets so that you can concentrate on the shallow ones.

If you go back, mark all the targets with golf tees and have the owner dig them while you locate the rest of the potential targets.. You'll cover more ground and the owner will get some comfort by helping in the effort.

Good luck!

Thank you Wayne for the package :O)
Fast and prompt

I have been asked to find 2 lost items // One set of keys in a sand pit and one Platnum earing in a side yard/// I found both BUT neather was where the owner said to look///// Question him again and expand the search--Often where they say they lost it is where they Descovered it missing--- Perry

The 5x8 is a good option any time. I LOVE that coil. Mine never comes off.
